Abstract | The school visit is an effective tool for stimulating the continued professional growth of middle level educators. In the past, however, a major problem with school visits was that they were conducted with positive expectations, but very little preplanning activities, little or no on-site structure, little or no debriefing for either the visiting faculty or the faculty visited, and an almost total absence of a structured follow-up plan. As a result, school visits were ineffective in most situations. This article provides guidelines on how to make a middle school visit successful. For a middle school visit to be successful, preplanning is essential for both the visiting teachers and the host school. During the visit, the visiting teachers should interview students and administrators at the host school. After the visit, the visiting teachers should share observations with teachers from their own school. (ERIC). |
