Abstract | Responses of urban school teachers to the Pupil Control Ideology questionnaire were studied using Latent Class Analysis. The results of the analysis suggest that the best fitting model to the data is a two-cluster solution. In particular, the pupil control ideology of the sample delineates into two clusters of teachers, those with humanistic and those custodial control ideology. Cluster one teachers are humanistic in orientation and consisted of a large majority, 76% of the teachers. A relatively small percentage (24%) of the teachers in cluster two are custodial in control ideology. The results of this study corroborate current conceptualizations of pupil control ideology.
