Abstract | "Based on longitudinal data from the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS), this BIBB report addresses the highly relevant question of which factors lead to young people dropping out of their first VET (Vocational Education and Training). It complements previous findings in three respects: Firstly, it looks not only at the dual vocational training system but also at the school-based training system. Second, the study examines whether compromises in career choice increase the risk of dropping out of VET and in which occupational fields such compromises are particularly common. Thirdly, it shows the correlations between the subjective evaluation of occupational-related and company-related aspects of VET and dropout. The results suggest that the risk of dropping out of the first VET is associated with career compromises and subjective perceptions of the training situation-for example, in terms of enjoyment of training and (physical) strain." The study refers to the period 2010-2020. (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku).. |
